I'm sure most of you have that regret of past
hobbies that we can't do anymore for whatever reason. I miss my 'happy
place' in the quilting room and projects that I made just because I felt
the need to honor, or thank or just as a gift for special
friend. Quilters, ALL quilters are known for their willingness to take
on projects and causes, guilds and groups to donate comfort quilts, etc.
These are just 2 that I scraped some not -so-good pix. The first
picture was taken after I made 28 quilts for Littleton for the ones that
were recovering in the hospitals after the Columbine shooting and the
Thank you note from the kids. I'll treasure that Forever.
The flag was a
"Karen" version with my free-style Eagle in the center as Desert Shield
and Desert Storm unfolded....I embroidered each and every name of the
Ray County soldiers who were in that action at the time. Along with all
of the military branches in the vertical panel.
I'll have more pictures
of some of my memories of the years of being in the quilt world, just
thought I'd add these to today's post in FB and my Blog . I keep saying I DID NOT
MAKE quilts, I HAND QUILTED the quilts for clients. Well, there WERE
times.Mostly for special reasons. I have a total of ONE wall hanging of
my own in my possession. ONE! After 30 years, well, along with my Ray
County Veteran's flag...and, that's ok. I know all of the other quilts
went to good and loving homes

You'd think that I would have taken more pix of my quilts, sadly, I didn't. I would hand quilt for clients and then ship them on their way to turn around and start another one. I didn't think at the time that it would be helpful to have a scrapbook of quilts that I had hand quilted for clients and publications. Oh well...
I DID find this one picture of the last quilt that I hand pieced, hand applique and hand quilted for myself.
It was titled "Quilt of One Thousand Leaves" by my friends. Once I start applique and quilting, there's No stopping me! This was made at a very low point in my life and was my therapy to get through it. I represented personal things to me as to how many Dogwood blooms and then just continued with leaves.
I pieced the Courthouse steps as the background for the main center and then different, muted neutrals for the rest of the background.
I checked and there isn't one square inch that isn't hand quilted. I used 'echo', outline and feather wreaths....it went on and on until I decided it was time to stop, bind it and use it on my bed for comfort during the darker days. When it was time to let go.....I sold at an auction. It happens. I'm kicking myself now, but that was then.
Who knows, one of these days, I might try another one if my hands and fingers cooperate :)
I found a few more pix of my work. It's a shame I didn't have the camera I have Now. I could have actually been able to SHOW the hand quilting...ugh
Some of the publications I have hand quilted for. Most are models for their publications. Red Wagon, McCall's, American Patchwork, etc...
